Twin Peaks Loop Trail Cache

GC222F - October 17, 2001

Poway, CA

It was a bright, sunny October day in San Diego, the perfect time for a leisurely hike up scenic Twin Peaks, the granite towers that dominate, ah, well, let's see, they dominate lovely Silverset Park, which is where you park your car to catch the Twin Peaks Loop Trail. I never did figure out the "loop" part of this trail, but I suppose if I kept hiking along the main trail it would have looped back eventually, maybe.

But I didn't! I took the side trail which led steeply to the top where, after reading the hint on the Cache web page as well as Mark71mark's log thereon, I was able to find it. Above is my GPS track and profile.

These three show the rock near which the Cache is hidden, with the Cache and it's contents spread out in the photo on the right.

The photos on the left are views from the Cache and on the right is me with the Cache lid. This time I didn't cut my head off.

After finding the Cache, logging in and replacing it, I was settling down for my usual culinary delight of a lunch, my pb&j sandwich, when along comes a fellow Geocacher by the name of Jim, known in Geocaching circles as W9JIM, his ham radio call letters. Jim and I had met briefly at the recent San Diego Geocacher's get together, and it was a pleasure meeting him again, especially since he had just had lunch and didn't want any of my peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We sat and talked for a while and then Jim got up to locate the Cache. It was fun watching somebody else go through pretty much the exact same exercise I did when looking for this one: Zero in on the coordinates, look around, read the hint, look around some more, stop, think, look down, and there it is!

On the left is Jim "looking around", in the middle photo, it looks like he has found something and on the right is Jim and me posing with the Cache.

(Note to Jim: All the photos on this page are reduced from the original size and saved as a lesser quality jpg image in order to keep the file sizes within reason. The original photos are 1280 x 960 and are generally around 400KB in file size. You mentioned that you'd like to copy the photos off this page which is fine with me. Here are the original 400KB +/- files for the three photos above. If you need anything else, just drop me and email. Left, middle, right.)
