Day Trip to Oceanside. August 8, 2025
One beautiful Sunday afternoon with nothing much to do, Lorri and i decided to take a ride on the Coaster up to Oceanside!
Here we are sporting our Sunday finest on the northbound train.
We debarked (is that what you do when you get off a train?) and walked up toward the pier. This is the Pier. There used to be a restaurant, Ruby's, at the end of the pier but it burned down a year or so ago.
Tom Cruise slept here. Well maybe not here because this house used to be down the street. And actually I think it was Kelly McGillis's house in Top Gun and probably neither she nor Tom slept here. But the house was in the movie, so it's famous.
Here you can better see the Ruby-less end of the pier. I understand that repairs are being made but since it's a government job I'm guessing it will look like new sometime in the early 2030's.
We found a roof-top restaurant (in lieu of Ruby's) for an eye-opener. The eye-opener was the check ($$$)!!! The Bloody Mary was good, though.

We like Finney's. No ocean view but no ocean view prices either.
Here we are at Finney's bar. I don't know if there is an actual person named Finney.
And here is Finney's bar. After another beverage stop we were ready to head back to Encinitas and start preparing our Sunday dinner. It was a great afternoon...very relaxing! Maybe not worthy of a whole page in my website, but what the heck?
