Each year the great folks from Sportsmobile West put on a Rally for 4WD Sportsmobile Owners. This year it took place in Hungry Valley ORV Area, just north of LA, near the thriving metropolis of Gorman, a few miles off I-5. As usual, there was some sort of natural catastrophe that made the Rally a little more interesting. This year's feature was wind which at times reached velocities of 800 miles and hour or so, kicking up monumental dust storms and tipping over several cows and Sportsmobiles and generally making it not very pleasant to be outdoors. I'm guessing that if we had the next rally on the planet Mars, we'd have similar weather. This year the theme was "Back to School" and featured "classes" in Axles, Chaining, Cooking (Sportsmobile Style), Off-road Driving, etc., and culminated with the SAT (Sportsmobile Aptitude Test) and a Sock Hop. Anyway, I was just kidding about Sportsmobiles tipping over, and neither did the massive tent which housed the main festivities blow away. In the end, a good time was had by all. Here are some of the photos we took. Click on the thumbnails for a larger view. That's us on the far left. Next, a group getting ready for a technical hill climb.
