Carlsbad State Bch

The weather was so great we decided to go out to the desert to camp for a couple nights and check out the desert wildflowers. But... as we were packing the van in the driveway, it seemed awfully hot, so we decided to go the beach instead. We drove up the coast only to find that San Elijo State Beach was closed until April 1 for maintenance. So we continued north to South Carlsbad State Beach and arrived just in time to nab the last ocean view campsite.

So we set up, popped the top and mixed up a couple adult beverages as the marine layer closed in. There we are toasting our good fortune on the left and on the right, the sun is making its last gasp effort to peak through the clouds.

On Wednesday, after a good run down to Leucadia and back, we decided a game of beach bocce ball was in order. That's Lorri and the bocce balls heading down to the sand. And there we are after a rousing match, relaxing and recovering from the effort.

If you look closely at the two photos on the left you can see the van popping its top above the bluff. The bluff along the San Diego coast has a nasty habit of retreating inland due to the action of the waves, natural erosion and lack of stability, caused in part by the innocent looking varmint in the middle of the photo on the right and a few million of his close friends and relatives.

Here some shots taken as the sun was setting Wednesday evening. That may have been the same fisherman from Tuesday night and if you look closely you can see a couple surfer dudes (or dudettes).
