Day Trip to Ramona, CA, for sunshine and wine-tasting!

June 7, 2025

Trying to escape "June Gloom" along the coast, we decided that a trip inland to Ramona would do the trick.

After about an hour of driving east we passed through Ramona and found Edwards Vineyard and Cellars.

It wasn't much to look at but we were lucky enough to meet Beth Edwards, the widow of the founder.

She is carrying on the family tradition with help from one of her sons and her daughter-in-law

We found the sunny day we were looking for and enjoyed a tasting overlooking the vines and the gravel road off Route 78.

There are also two or three yurts for "glamping" on the property.

It was a good start to the day!

Here is the line-up. We particularly liked the Syrahs and the Rose. They age their wines in neutral oak barrels for a few years before bottling, hence all the 2017's and 2018's

The next stop was Milagro

Milagro was a very nice facility with a nicely appointed tasting room, a shady outdoor tasting patio, a kids' play area, and a hilltop gazebo a few dozen yards away, with tables and great views

The tasting room.

They offered two flights so we got one of each because that allowed us to sample all their wines.

Most of them were pretty good.

Hatfield Creek

We have some friends that are involved with Hatfield Creek so we didn't want to head home without checking it out.

Whereas Milagro was modern and sleek, Hatfield Creek was homey and rustic

There is a drum in the glass cabinet toward the back that was used by an ancestor of the owner during the Civil War battle of Shiloh

Every hour is happy hour! Our kind of place!

Common mistake!

It was a great day! We'll have to do more exploring of the Ramona wine producing area!
