Leaving CDG on our Volvo wagon - a lucky free upgrade!

A small chateau on the way to Beaune

"Vignobles de Bourgogne" - we must be getting close!

Tasting wine

All six of us in Beaune

Mini gargoyles

I think that sign says "Urban Center - Aim for Pedestrians, then Roll Over Them"

We had a great tasting at Joseph Drouhin

Love those 1er Crus!

Our new good buddy, Arnold.

The "Beaune Heads"

The goods

The Church

Where did everybody go?

Rest time

The caves at Les Jardins

Our hosts at Les Jardins are also wine producers

These caves are directly underneath the building where our rooms were.

We tasted and toured

low light photos.

Break time for the cook

Dinner time

Huge portions

There were light shows at several locations

Images were projected directly onto buildings

The images moved and morphed

Impossible to capture in a still photo

Next day: off to La Jura to see Greg's distant cousin

Françoise was her name

She is the matriarch of the family wine business

Her house

The automatic riddler for their sparkling wine

The little lady in the middle is Francoise's friend and translater

We toured the facility

Then we tasted

The vin jaune of La Jura is unique

We had a great lunch in a nearby town along with some local wines

and cheese

and dessert

at this place:

Then it was off to see the vineyards

The family owns vines in this area

The grapes were getting ripe - close to harvest time

Do you see some family resemblance?

On Friday, Lorri and I rented bikes and went vineyard touring

There is a great bike path that winds through the vineyards

it's used by cars too, but rarely

These vines produce some of the world's best wines. Just ask the French.

Old stone walls, ancient buildings, sore-butt bicyclists.

Notice the windy bike path

We made it as far as Meursault, about an hour south of Beaune

We relaxed and tasted at this place - very nice

The town square

heading back

we stopped in Volnay

We stopped and tasted here:

Reyane, the owner along with her husband Pascal, was our hostess

a very nice (free!) tasting

Though she knew we came on bicycles and weren't about to make a major purchase...

She was as sweet as could be.

Very proud of her wines (for good reason) and very generous

We bought three bottles and carried them back to Beaune in my backpack
After a long bike ride, it beer time!

Josie's new best friend
