We left San Diego on Tuesday, June 18th, and headed toward Southwest Colorado to meet up with 90 or so other people who were crazy enough to invest untold amounts of money, time, imagination, and who knows what all into their 4WD Sportsmobile vans. The Rally started on Sunday, June 23, 2002, so we had enough time to make a couple stops on the way there, including Canyon de Chelly National Monument in Arizona and Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado.
The Rally itself took place near Silverton, Colorado, a small town on what is known as the "San Juan Skyway", a collection of highways that form a loop through the spectacular San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado.
After the Rally, we stopped in Telluride, CO, Natural Bridges National Monument and Fishlake National Forest, Utah, and of course the wonder of the modern world, Las Vegas, Nevada. The trip took two weeks and added 2500 miles to the Sportsmobile's odometer.

This is the van in our driveway packed up and ready to roll.
This is Lorri driving and expressing her opinion of my picture taking.
On Tuesday, June 18th, we drove about 500 miles and got as far as Wilson, AZ, which is about 30 miles west of Flagstaff. We camped at Kaibab Lake in Kaibab National Forest, just a little north of Wilson.
We had a nice camping spot and needed to relax and unwind after a long day driving. That's our camp spot on the left and that's me relaxing with a beverage, or at least those are my feet relaxing.
