Road Trip Three Statistics

Well, for all you numbers freaks, here are some numbers from RT3.

We were gone for 65 days, leaving August 27 and getting back on October 31. We drove, according to our odometer, 10,527 miles. We traveled through 35 states. We even stopped in some of them! We crossed state lines 46 times.

We got as far north as Canada, just north of the Vermont line and as far east as Acadia National Park in Maine.

We consumed around 860 gallons of gas averaging about 12.2 miles per gallon and an average of $1.52 per gallon. We use mid-grade gas almost all the time. Don’t ask me why. The cheapest gas was near Scranton, PA, on Sept 27^th and near Freehold, NJ, on October 3^rd, both at $1.399/gallon. Most expensive? Brewster, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod at $1.699/gallon on October 8^th.

We slept in the van 29 nights, we stayed with friends and relatives 14 nights and we stayed in motels or hotels on 20 nights. Hotel/motel stays included five nights in Williamsburg, VA, for a Hill family gathering, three nights in Worthington, MN, to visit with Lorri’s family and two nights near West Chester, PA, for a family wedding.

Note 1: The odometer has an error of about 3%. For every 100 miles of true distance traveled, the odometer registers 103 miles. This error has been measured and confirmed by both GPS and highway mileage markers. This means that we really only traveled about 10,220 miles and our gas mileage was about 11.90 MPG

Note 2: Gasoline prices are for mid-grade, usually 89 octane rating, not regular unleaded.
