Camden, Maine

October 15, 2002, the day after Columbus Day, we left Bar Harbor and Acadia and headed down the coast. We stopped in a fine little town called Camden, and did some sight-seeing and shopping (we were out of wine!).

Since Lorri was driving, I took a couple photos out the van window before we stopped at Camden. It was a pretty day, one of the few sunny days we had.

These are all scenes from Camden.

Red's Eats!

Further on down the coast we found ourselves in the thriving little town of Wiscasset, Maine, home of The world-famous Red's Eats. Actually we never heard of it until our friend and sandwich-meister, Doug Arnold, told us about their renowned lobster rolls. This little shack has been featured on the Sandwich Channel (there really should be a sandwich channel; it would get higher ratings than the golf channel), USA Today, People, The New York Times, etc., etc, etc. Unfortunately for us, the day after Columbus Day was their last day of the season and they were SOLD OUT OF LOBSTER ROLLS! I cried for a while, but got over it.

Old Orchard Beach, Maine

That night, with the weather turning much colder and rain in the air, we decided to stay in a little seaside motel in Old Orchard Beach, Just south of Portland, Maine. We got a cozy room facing the ocean and made a nice dinner in the room's kitchenette. We sampled some of that new wine we bought in Camden.

There was still a little sun in the evening, but the clouds gathered as night fell.

The next morning the rain let loose as we left.
