New Hampshire, Vermont, Covered Bridges and Canada

We actually went to New England to see the "fall color", to be "leaf peepers" as the locals call us tourists. So far along the coast everything was still pretty green so we decided to head north and inland into New Hampshire until we found some color. We ended up in the White Mountains National Forest at a place called Crawford Notch. The leaves were still not great but there certainly was a lot more color than along the coast.

This was our camp spot. The photo on the right was taken on the morning of October 11 from near our camp site. We have had a lot of rainy and overcast days and this was one of them.

We continued north in New Hampshire stopping here and there to admire the scenery.

We spotted a couple covered bridges along the way. The one on the right spans the Connecticut River, the boundary between New Hampshire and Vermont. We drove across it into Vermont.

We kept going north along the river until we got to Canada! We didn't want to drive into Canada since we had recently stocked up on liquor at a New Hampshire Discount Liquor Outlet and were WAY over the limit. So, we walked across the border and took a couple photos and jumped in the van and turned around. Unfortunately, we had inadvertently passed the US Customs inspection station and had to go back through it to continue are journey. And we still had all that liquor in the van. Fortunately the friendly Customs Officer didn't ask any liquor questions so we escaped back to Vermont with our stash.

Apparently there are a lot of moose in this area, We didn't see any so I was forced to do my moose impersonation.

We decided to head back across New Hampshire and into Maine. The back roads are great and full of scenic vistas like the one above. There are several stately old hotels scattered about and if you look at the photo on the right you will see one of them.
