October 6 dawned bright and sunny so we went for a stroll on the "Cliff Walk", a pedestrian way that winds along the shore behind some of the mansions built as summer homes by America's rich and famous of the mid to late 1800's including the Gettys, the Vanderbilts and the Hills. Well maybe not the Hills.
Here are a few scenes of the Walk.
Lorri and a small home; a building that is now part of Salve Regina College; another little place
Look! Surfer dudes! I couldn't believe these guys were trying to surf these tiny little ripples.
We visited "The Breakers" built by Cornelius Vanderbilt as a cozy (140,000 sf) little summer getaway for his family and a few close friends. It is currently undergoing renovations, hence the scaffolding. The photo on the right is the Vanderbilt's kids "playhouse", a place in which most of us could spend a pleasant summer.
Leaving Newport, I spotted this nice white dog in a nice white car, obviously headed to the flea market. Can you see the Flea Market sign?
