Mystic, Connecticut
October 4, 2002. Once past the New York metropolis, we found ourselves near Mystic, which we recognized as the town and Pizza shop made famous by Julia Roberts' break through movie Mystic Pizza, so we had to go there.
Here are some scenes of the Mystic River.
On the left is the famous 1932 draw bridge and on the right is Lorri in front of Mystic Pizza.
Stonington, Connecticut
Just a few miles east of scenic Mystic, lies scenic Stonington. We stopped there at Noah's for lunch and had our first bowl of New England clam chowder in New England. On the right is Stonington Light, now a museum.
Newport, Rhode Island
October 4, 5 and 6, 2002. Newport is the former home of the Americas Cup before it was stolen by San Diego and later Australia and New Zealand. It is also scenic and full of shops, restaurants and buildings of historical importance, as you shall see.
This is the view out the window of our hotel where we stayed Friday and Saturday night.
Some scenes from Bowens Wharf
Looking up Thames (pronounced here as "thames") Street and Trinity Church.
The White Horse Tavern. This is the oldest tavern in continuous operation in the US, so naturally ranks right up there with the Washington Monument for cultural, historical and architectural importance. You will be interested to know that the ceilings are low, the floors creak and the beer is cold.
