Saturday, September 21, 2002, Penn State takes on Louisiana Tech on an overcast and drizzly afternoon. With the score 21-17 early in the third quarter, Penn State began to dominate both sides of the line and pulled away for a 49-17 final score.

Thanks to my nephew, Sean McHugh, number 42, and his dad Kevin, we had seats on the 50 yard line in the player guest seating area. These photos give an idea of how great the seats were. In the third photo you can see Sean on the sideline along with JoePa wearing a white shirt on the right side of the photo.
Before the game we hooked up with some friends and fellow PSU alumni. Shown above are Doug & Jan Arnold, Bruce & Ruthie Balmat and Don "Stoney" Biehn. I hadn't seen the Arnolds or Balmats for 25 years or more. My how time flies!
It got a little wet during the game so we donned our ponchos. They weren't quite Penn State blue, but they worked.
After the game we returned to the tailgate party and found some more old friends.

Later that evening we had the opportunity to visit with Joe and Sue Paterno. I'm not kidding. It's sort of a long story how this happened, so I won't go into it here, but what a thrill it was to have the opportunity to actually sit at a table with only Lorri, me and my brother-in-law, Kevin, and talk with Coach Paterno and Sue! I can't say enough about how friendly and gracious they were and what an honor it was to be a guest in their house. They were kind enough to pose for a photo with us and here it is.
