Indiana Dunes

On September 7th, after blasting through Chicago and Gary, Indiana (or is that Gary, Indiana or Gary, Indiana?) we made for Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in Lake Michigan. We stated at the Dunewood Campground in the National Park and the next day explored the dunes.

So here we are exploring the dunes. However these particular dunes are in the Indiana Dunes State Park, not the National Lakeshore. They were big and sandy. The structure in the photo on the right is an old bath house. From the beach you can see the smokes stacks of the industrialized megalopolis nearby. Still, it was a nice slice of serenity within an easy commute of a few million people.

Notre Dame

Next stop, South Bend, Indiana for the obligatory photo in front of the Golden Dome.

Leaving South Bend, we caught US 6 and continued east with Lorri driving and talking. That night we found a municipal campground by accident while we were looking for a motel. It was called Bixler Lake Park in Kendallville, IN. I got to watch an adult league co-ed softball game that night at the field adjacent to the campground. They weren't very good.
