Debbie and Mike Visit San Diego!

March 24, 2025, Monday morning.

Trying something new here. Since I've moved my website to a new hosting service, it is easier to edit and upload files. So, I'm going to try to be more up-to-date with photos and commentary about what's happening!

Deb and Mike flew in from Baltimore on Saturday arriving pretty much on time at around 6:00PM in San Diego. We spent a quiet Saturday evening at home on Zarina Lane, sipping wine, talking, and enjoying a shrimp salad with a curry vinaigrette dressing.

On Sunday, after a leisurely breakfast, we made our way to Forgotten Barrel Winery in Escondido with a stop at Hernandez Hideaway in Del Dios for margaritas and taquitos on the way there.

Forgotten Barrel was having their wine club (we're members) pick-up party. The weather was perfect and we had a nice time going through the tastings and having a short chat with Rodger and John, the owner and wine-maker.

Sunday Dinner

Back at Casa Zarina, after cocktails in the back yard, we had a nice steak dinner with some tasty wines from our stash.

Monday, March 24

Encinitas

We didn't have much planned for Monday so we drove into town

We walked around and shopped

and took some photos

Looking in a window. The signs are all places that are part of the City of Encinitas

The weather was a little iffy but we broke out the chairs and had our picnic lunch at South Cardiff State Beach.

Much of the sand in this area has been washed away by high tides and winter storms.

On the way home we picked up some salmon from Seaside Market for dinner.

Tuesday

UTC and Queenstown Bistro

On the way to Coronado, we stopped at UTC, University Town Center, for a stroll. some shopping, and a quick lunch.

We sat outside at Queenstown Bistro

Coronado

We were too early to check in so we passed some time at McP's Irish Pub

Mc P's!

It's a fun place and serves good Guinness!

Turns out we had more time to kill, so we ventured into the Tavern

It was really enjoyable - good drinks/good service

and good atmosphere!

Our hotel was across the street from the Hotel Del which is currently undergoing an extensive renovation.

Our hotel for Tuesday and Wednesday nights - The El Cordova!

Deb and Mike's room - nothing fancy, but adequate.

That evening we planned to explore some local eateries for cocktails and apps.

Hotel Del Coronado

We walked over to the beach in the cool, cloudy morning

That's Point Loma behind us.

and that's the Hotel Del!

They were setting up for a beach wedding when we passed by

Not quite sure how the "wish you were here..." message relates to the wedding. Hopefully both the bride and groom showed up!

Encinitas Yacht Club Happy Hour at 3rd Corner

The regular gang plus John and Jennifer Norman and Deb and Mike!

After 3rd Corner we had a Happy Meal (Smash burger, oysters, fries, Champagne, $20) at Herb and Sea! Best deal in town!

Friday lunch with Greg and Kelly

We met G&K at Nick's Carlsbad and had a great lunch with great friends!

On the way home, we stopped for a pick-me-up at the "Camp Store" at Carlsbad State Beach Campground.

We saw some alien space travelers as well as a few dinosaurs!

I told you!

The Camp Store sells camping supplies and doubles as a take out restaurant.

We had a great week with Deb and Mike. The weather could have been better but what can you do? We still had a blast and are looking forward to the next time!
