Road Trip to Ojai and Paso Robles

Feb 18 to 24

We stopped for a couple nights in Ojai on our way to Paso Robles.

This is Lorri driving us there.

This is the road to Ojai from the 101

We stayed at the Emerald Iguana. This is the Emerald Iguana

Our room wasn't ready when we arrived so we went in to town and roamed around

This is the old bell tower. It still rings on the hour.

This place wasn't open. We'll check it out next time.

We had a glass at the Ojai Vineyard tasting room.

It was pretty good wine!

Just off the main drag

That evening we walked into town down this quiet residential street

Dinner at Topa Topa

Not a good selfie

Actual dinner was from Sama Sama at Topa Topa - two businesses, one building

Didn't know it was trivia night!

Our dinner was excellent!

Our trivia results? Not so much. Did OK on history and "what happened first?", though

The Inn at night

The office. Last time here, we stayed in the room above the office. It was very nice too!

The Ojai Valley Museum, formerly,

St Thomas Aquinas Church

As a surveyor, I wanted to see the Mapping exhibit but the museum was closed :-(

Lorri

More Lorri

I have never trusted wine enough to dance

We ate our deli lunch at Majestic Oak Winery, right in the middle of town

Their wines are OK, but the setting is very nice

Entrance to the city park

Same entrance at night

We started the evening (Wednesday) at Sam's Place

Sam took a photo of us

Next stop was Tres Hermanas

"Tacos and Tequilas"

There were only Dos Hermanas working that evening

On the walk back to the hotel, I took a photo of Sam's place. I don't think the young lady was happy about it.

On Thursday, we headed up to Paso. This is what US 101 looks like going that way.

We stopped for lunch at Laetitia, our favorite rest stop!

We had a bottle of fine bubbly

And stuff that we brought with us. we sat inside because it was cool and breezy out.

Vines were just starting to bud

Only been to one of these wineries.

Friday, first stop

Here we are at Linne Calodo

Ready for a tasting

Our next tasting was at Lone Madrone but...

We had some time to kill, so we swung in to Donati when we noticed this sign!

Wine and SPIRITS!

We opted for spirits!

They were all pretty good! We bought a vodka!

Lone Madrone is just across the street (Rte. 46) from Donati

They had a private tasting set up for us with Marcus, son of one of the owners, and heir apparent

He was knowledgeable and friendly and, we found out, is good friends with a wine-maker friend of ours.

Friday night

we walked back through town to the train station where we had dinner at...

Junction!

The tapas were muy bueno, as were the wine and the service!

Saturday

Lunch at Jeffry's.

This look says it all. Not impressed. Sorry, Jeffry.

Saturday evening we had apps here at S'Aranella.

Selfie at S'Aranella from our seats looking out toward the town square with our backs to the restaurant.

Next stop, Parchetto.

Good atmosphere, good service...

...and the best scallops ever!

Comfy bar stools! What more do you need?

Looks inviting!

Sunday

Starting at Alto Colina

Another beautiful day in Paso. We sat outside overlooking the valley and vineyards on the hills beyond

We met the founder/owner Bob Tillman and had a nice visit.

Bob's house. Just kidding. Don't know whose it is, but I'd like to live there.

We stopped here

We bought some organic stuff and met Mr. Pig

Adelaida

We are members of Adelaida Wine Club

They make very nice wines

and their property is beautiful!

and they were ready for us! The Hill Party! That's us!

Some of their vines

More vines and their house.

Even more vines! Love the patterns of the rows.

Monday

Alas! Too soon it was time to head home. This is 46 East, heading to I-5

Only 145 miles to LA! Only another 100 miles to San Diego after that!

Approaching the Grapevine. This is nothing like the grapevines we saw in Paso.

We made good time going through LA and got home safely, It was a great trip and lots of fun, food, wine, and adventures. Cheers!
