July 11 - 14, Little Italy Staycation and 39th Anniversary Celebration!

Our favorite Little Italy Hotel was not taking reservations due to an impending remodel so we booked a VRBO from Thursday through Sunday.

It was located on Kettner on the same block as the Waterfront Grill and almost directly above it.

This is looking out our front window at Kettner

The dining area and kitchen. Small kitchen but well-equipped

Looking up the stairs!

The bedroom and bathroom were on the loft level

Comfortable and roomy

The bathroom with the remote control bidet and best view of the bay.

The view from the bidet!

Directly across the street was Devil's Dozen Donut Shop and just to the right of that was Kettner Exchange

We had a great view of the incoming planes from our LR window. Here's a video:

Here we are enjoying an attitude adjustment at Kettner Exchange

Nice bar, nice place. This was our first time there

Next, we stopped for an app and drink at Juniper and Ivy.

This is the bar.

On to Civico, one of our faves!

Time for wine

Happy Anniversary, my love!

A light snack at the bar

India Street

Our plan for the evening was to visit a few places, sit at the bar, if possible, and have a small plate or split something.

Last stop was Monello where we got a nice table outside. The weather was perfect!

It was a great evening!

More views from our VRBO

Friday! The Waterfront! Bloody Mary's! Life is good! We had breakfast there too!

We decided Friday would be  a good day to visit Coronado Island.

So we walked to the ferry terminal, paid our $16 for round-trip tickets and got on board!

...and we're off!

 The city from Coronado

That's our ferry at the Coronado Ferry Landing

Looking back across the bay at the city

First order of business was a little liquid sustenance at Coronado Brewing Company, right there on Orange Avenue, not too far from the Landing.

Had not been to the beach in Coronado for a while. It looks great! Good view of Point Loma.

The dunes are coming along nicely.

Heading down the beach walk toward the Hotel Del

The iconic Hotel Del Coronado

We stopped at an outdoor bar to relax, regroup, and get ready for, um, the rest of the day!

The front

A view of the USS Midway and the city from the ferry on the way back

And, of course, the Star of India

We stopped at the Brigantine on the way back. Here is a video for our seats at the upstairs bar:

We made it back for some r and r then headed out for happy hour! First stop: Allegro

Picture perfect martinis!

What goes better with ice-cold martinis than ice-cold ($1.50!) oysters? Doesn't get much better.

Happy hour Lorri in front of Allegro

Happy hour Lorri and Monello (I think)

They had the best Caesar salad ever! Notice the abundance of anchovies and those little dark things are perfectly crispy pieces of pancetta. The meatballs were also excellent!

Then it was off to the Piazza for some music, wine, and people watching

The band was pretty good!

Saturday evening we cooked dinner in our VRBO. This is our boneless leg of lamb searing.

These are our potatoes baking

These are our green beans steaming. Earlier in the day we went to the Little Italy farmers market where we purchased our dinner ingredients, except for the lamb which we brought with us.

We brought this too!

And these!

Getting the dinner table ready.

It was a great anniversary dinner and a great weekend!

Alas, all good things must end.

Until next year!
