Encinitas Yacht Club Padres Outing!
Wednesday Afternoon, July 26
On a beautiful San Diego summer day, a few of the eYc-ers caught the Coaster and rode downtown to see the Padres take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
I posted a few of these photos on the eYc FB page but I thought I'd post all of them here, just in case....
Here is the Encinitas contingent: Dave, Wendy, AJ, Lorri, Marcia, Vicki, Stella, Steve, and Rosario
Same group, different photo
Now with me and not Lorri
And one more
Waiting, looking north. Lady Di boarded in Carlsbad and warned us that the seats were pretty full
She was right, and there was quite a crowd waiting in Encinitas
Lorri and I were lucky to get seats across the aisle from each other. That's Steve who was sitting next to a sleeping homeless-looking guy who had his bags all over the place which is why the other two seats are empty
We were joined in Solana Beach by Tom, Pauline, and Keith
Anyway, we made it to Santa Fe Depot where the crowd poured out and we all decided to walk to the Gaslamp.
Sure enough, that's what we did and here we are sauntering down Broadway toward 5th,
We stopped first at the Tavern for an attitude adjustment beverage and a few of us ordered some food.
They stuck us at this table even though we were the only people in the restaurant
Cheers! Go Padres!
Tom and Pauline don't look happy
Now Tom is happy but still not Pauline
Most of the crowd went directly to the game from the Tavern, but this group made a pit stop at The Field Irish Pub where we fortified ourselves with pints of Guinness and so on
Little Irish sausages in pastry
Chicken boxty, I think
Jack was here
Strolling down the middle of 5th in the Gaslamp. The weekend before, there would have been thousands of Comic Con attendees jamming this very spot.
Gaslamp Quarter, the Heart of San Diego!
we did not see an over abundance of homeless people, but homelessness has been a major problem here and has affected the ambiance of the Gaslamp and the viability of the East Village area as a residential/commercial area.
But Petco is the same, still a great venue for baseball! Maybe not a lot of great baseball this year, but still....
This is the view from our seats
It was warm in the sun which was shining brightly on the row of seats in front of us.
We were in the shade the whole game!
Looking toward center field we could not see the main scoreboard or a portion of the left field corner.
Looking across at the right field stands and scoreboard with a welcome to the eYc from the Padres!
Play ball!
The Padres ended up losing by a run, leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. Sad face here, But we had a great time and managed to walk back to SF Depot without losing anyone.
Great to spend an afternoon at the ballpark with great friends!
