"Back East"
That's what we Californians call visiting the east coast, which includes everything east of the Mississippi River!
We flew from San Diego to Charlotte and then to the Newport News/Williamsburg airport where brother Bob picked us up in his shiny new (for him) Nissan!
Williamsburg, May 16
Here we are in the Charlotte airport having lunch and killing time during our three hour layover.
Good old 111 Dogwood Drive! Four bedrooms, two full baths, dual zone heating and A/C, and an oversized one-car garage with a dart board - the ultimate in Virginia living!
First order of business is always a stroll through the HA of CW. That means the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg for you uninitiated.
They not only preserve buildings and practice colonial era craftsmanship, they breed all sorts of animals whose ancestors came over on the Mayflower, maybe. Here we have a mama and newborn, um, filly?
The little one was taking an afternoon nap.
Happy Hour at the Fat Canary
Once per visit we splurge on drinks and appetizers at our favorite local eatery
We also like to hike different sections of the Powhatten Creek Trail which connects to parts of Greenspring Trail and the Virginia Capitol trail which stretched from Jamestown to Richmond, 35 miles or so.
The is Tidewater Virginia - lots of marshes and wetlands, many of which are traversed by boardwalks like this.
Lot's of stuff happened around here since the early 1600's and if you have a spare month or two, my very knowledgeable brother will be happy to tell you all about. Otherwise, you can read this sign.
Another boardwalk.
Another favorite spot is the Williamsburg Winery where we enjoy a bottle of Virginia's finest wine on the upper deck of the Pavilion with views of the winery and the vineyards.
Lorri and Bob
No visit with my brother would be complete if we didn't sample a little fine sippin' whisky
Here's to you, bro!
Daughter Debbie and S-I-L Mike drove down from Baltimore to spend a few days and visit with us and Bob.
Here Bob is passing on a quilt, hand made by our mother, to Debbie, who, as you can see was deeply moved.
She made her quilts 100% by hand - no machine stitching.
More cruising through the HA. Over the years I have photographed these three structures approximately nine million times!
Mike and Bob on DoG Street (DoG = Duke of Gloucester)
Phillies. Almost as bad as the Padres.
An obscure variety of sheep, no doubt! Baaahhh!
Here we are in front of the Governor's Palace which is not very palatial by European standards, or any other standards, but it's pretty nice.
Buildings on the north side of the HA
More heirloom beasts.
Heirloom beast butts
Backyard whiffle golf at Dogwood
Coach Mike
More walking on the Pawhattan Trail System
Rusted out farm machinery
Part of the Virginia Capital Trail which is also open to bicyclists

After many, many arduous miles of walking the trails, we stopped for refreshments and mini-golf at Frothy Moon Brewhouse
