Debbie and Mike Visit Encinitas!
They were on their way to Hawaii but decided that a couple days in SoCal would be a good idea!
We thought so too, so we picked them up at the airport and went directly to Madison in University Heights. Luckily we found a parking spot a half-mile away!
This is where we met Michelle, a long-time friend of the family, for brunch. Michelle and granddaughter Malarie have been friends since 2nd grade. I won't say how long ago that was, but it's been quite a while!
A better photo because it's not a selfie.
We were worried about having good weather for the visitors from back east, but Monday turned out OK.
Here Mike and Deb are strolling on the beach just south of Seaside Reef at the north end of Solana Beach.
There were a few high clouds but other than that, not too bad.
You can tell it was a little chilly because Lorri has her waffle coat on. It must have been 60 degrees or so...freezing!
Here we are with some of our feet cut off. When you ask total strangers to snap a photo, you never know what you'll get. But thank you anyway, total strangers.
Deb and Lorri and Mike's shadow. Much of the sand has washed out to sea due to all the storms and high tides.
There's Mike! I was standing on a small bluff near Seaside parking lot.
Later we went to "Downtown" Encinitas where I stopped in the middle of the intersection for this photo. They have this all-way walking setup now where all the cars have to stop and pedestrians can cross willy-nilly however they please! The painted "X" crosswalk is merely a suggestion.
This is the world-famous Daily Double, known as the "Saloon". Unfortunately it wasn't open yet.
On Tuesday, Lorri went to the gym while Mike, Debbie and I went for a stroll in Leucadia.
We started at the South Cardiff State Beach parking lot and headed up the viewpoint adjacent to the new hotel, the Alila Marea Beach Resort where you can get a room for only $725 a night! Not sure if that includes parking and resort fees, though.
We walked down Coast Highway and up to Neptune and the Grandview Beach Access. From there we cruised down Neptune to Beacon's then back up PCH to Bar Leucadian which unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, was closed. so we went home.
We had a nice lunch at Belching Beaver in Vista and then met Greg and Kelly at Boar's Crossin' in Carlsbad. We pushed a couple high-tops together and had a couple rounds.
We love Boar's! The people are friendly and you can still get a round of drinks for six people for less than $30! Amazing!
It was great to get together with our good friends, Greg and Kelly. They've become good friends with Deb and Mike too!
Wednesday's "dinner" was a beautiful charcuterie board assembled by Lorri and Debbie.
Not sure what Debbie is concerned about here, but hopefully nothing serious.
It was cold and windy on Wednesday so we decided to go to the bar at the Chart House to have an attitude adjustment and watch the waves. We were treated to a view of the back of Larry David's head and a couple of daring wind-surfers putting on a show!
Perhaps that wasn't the real Larry David but the wind-surfers were the real deal!
One of them wiped out and I thought, well, adios amigo, hope you had a good life! But miraculously, they were able to recover and continue the show, thankfully.
Here we are at the Chart House bar - another selfie, sorry.
Not a selfie. Mike looks like he's guilty of something in this photo. Or maybe he just saw the tab and realized their pricing is slightly higher than the Boar's.
Well, this is my last photo. Deb and Mike rented a stretch limo from Enterprise for their trip up to LA.
It was great to spend some quality time with daughter Deb and S-I-L Mike. Always fun! The weather could have been better but not the visitors!
