"Back East" Trip - May 19 to June 8, 2022

Williamsburg
Rehoboth Beach
Ocean City New Jersey

We left San Diego from the recently renovated and updated Terminal 2

It now actually looks like a real airport! Something got done in San Diego! Amazing!

Here we are with brother Bob and his daughter Lisy with son-in-law Tom in the living room of Bob's Dogwood Drive abode

Chicken Marsalla! We had to think of something to wash down with some fine white wines.

And how about a side salad?

I guess we were actually drinking red wines.

Awww...

The obligatory stroll through the HA (Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg, for the uninitiated)

The Governor's Palace

Same HA, different day

This is probably my thousandth photo of these three structures.

The Capital

Mossy-roofed house

The Palace again.

The Wythe House.

Video: Giant Tree in the HA

Tome, Bob, Lorri, and Lisy

And me

Saturday night dinner on the barby

And some of it on the stove top

The steaks are nearly done

Orfila wines! All the way the sunny vineyards of San Diego County!

Self-portrait at Williamsburg Alewerks, Sunday afternoon.

We were surprised to see a fife and drum corps putting on a show at the Alewerks, not dressed in their traditional Colonial garb, but impressive nonetheless.

A bit south of the Burg, toward Jamestown, there is a series of scenic and well-maintained trails.

Following Powhatan Creek, there are quite a few boardwalks or bridges like this one that cross the creek and adjacent wetlands.

Lorri says "hi"!

Alas, we saw not one Prothonotary Warbler except this one.

Neither did we see any slippery, wet bicyclists.

We did, however, see a doe, a deer, a young deer, this deer

The Church on the Main is mainly not there anymore, just some of the foundation.

Next excursion: Yorktown

The bridge to Gloucester Point, Tidemill, Achilles, and other famous locals.

Lafayette was here in 1781 and 1824. The poor guy...he only got to visit Yorktown twice!

The beach. You can see the evidence of the falling tide. The must be why they call this area "Tidewater Virginia"

These stairs lead up to the town proper

At the top of the steps this cute little back yard overlooks the York River

Thursday Happy Hour!

Our favorite local restaurant

We got there a little early and had to wait outside

We always sit at the bar

And I always order soft shell crab. This one was excellent - big, succulent and crabby

The Farmers Market

Every Saturday morning part of the HA becomes an outlet for various local produce, meat, and other goodies

The view down DOG (Duke of Gloucester) Street

View in the opposite direction toward Merchant Square

The College of William and Mary Crim Dell Pond - a great spot right in the middle of the campus.

The Williamsburg Winery

Here we are at the "Pavilion" where one can order glasses, bottles, or tastings, and enjoy the vineyard views

Bassett Trace Nature Trail

This mile-and-a-half trail starts just south of the HA and winds through the woods, ending up at the club house for the "Green Course"

A pond along the trail

A bridge over a pond along the trail

Lorri on the trail

Part of the Green Course, I think. Maybe it's the Gold Course, IDK.

Like everywhere it seems, distilleries are appearing out of nowhere.

Actually, this one appeared out of an old motel just north of town

The pot still

The product

It was a very nice facility and the whiskey was good but over-priced

The Copper Fox? I guess.

We had a great time with brother Bob, but it was time to head north!
(Lorri was in this photo too, but she made me edit her out! You can still see her left ear and some hair.)
