Little Italy and the Padres Game

July 8 and 9

We were invited by our good friends Doug and Karen to go see the Padres play the Washington Nationals on Thursday evening, July 8, so we decided to make a mini-vacation out of it.

We booked our favorite Little Italy hotel for Thursday and Friday night and set about to have some fun. Our room was the second one down on the right.

Looking toward the Harbor from the Date Street Plaza, I think it's called Plaza Di Familgia. Our hotel is on the right.

Looking down India Street from our balcony.

Getting ready for the Pads game having a beverage at Tin Fish, just around the corner from PetCo.

This is the view from our seats! That's Manny Machado crouching there at third base.

We were down 8-0 early but gradually started a comeback. Fernando hit one out and I think I got him mid-shuffle rounding third.

Here we are with Doug and Karen in their great seats. The Padres came back and won the game in the bottom of the ninth. Earlier our relief pitcher hit a grand slam as his first major league hit. Thanks again, Doug and Karen, for the tickets and for a great evening!

Friday morning and we're ready to go!

Again, looking down the Plaza toward the Harbor with our hotel on the right.

We walked by the Firemen's Museum on our way to the Harbor and Seaport Village.

Obligatory photo of the Star of India and the, um, other tall ship.

Here we are just sitting down for happy hour at Born and Raised, which has one of the best happy hours around

It also is rather interesting architecturally. This is a selfie taken sitting at the bar. The ceiling is full of mirrors!

Things are looking up!

This is their happy hour menu. Good stuff, reasonable prices.

In between happy hour and dinner, we met up with our nephew-in-law and great friend, Trevor, at Graze, Sam the Cooking Guy's latest eatery on the Plaza. Great to have a couple drinks with Trevor!

Here we are a little later at Devante for dinner.

We split a Caesar and some Risotto and a nice bottle of Rosso di Montalcino and called it a night. The next morning we cruised the great Little Italy Farmers Market for dinner food, checked out and drove home.

It was a great getaway and fun time. Great game Thursday and great to see Doug and Karen and Trevor! Just great! Great, great, great!
