Superstork 2017
Deb and Mike!
Daughter (now a grandmother!) Debbie came to visit on August 18 and was joined by Mike a week later. Debbie was on a "working" vacation, having attended a seminar in Mission Valley on August 19 and 20.
First order of business, of course, is the beach. Here we are at Cardiff.
We took a walk north along the beach in front of the campground.
The tide was out a little so it was nice, except for the seaweed.
From the campground looking north toward Swami's
I hope there was no taboo beverages in those blue cups.
On Tuesday we stopped at Orfila Winery on the way to see Lorri's dad to celebrate his 92nd Birthday.
Here we are in the tasting room. My head is partially obstructing the Maryland flag.
Orfila has a nice tasting room and a nice setting for sipping and relaxing.
Looking out over the vineyards and foothills
from this shady spot.
It was a beautiful day, a good day for wine!
Here we are with Lorri's dad at his apartment at the Remington Club. He pretty much gets polo shirts for his birthday and Christmas too!
Also, he likes to keep a little wine on hand. We bring him the easy-open and easy-closing black boxes.
Lorri and Lynn with the Birthday Boy.
Sara, Deb and the top of a wine bottle.
The Birthday Cake!
Deb took a couple days to visit friends and family in Orange County and we met her at the Oceanside Train Station upon her return on Friday afternoon.
This is the famous "Top Gun House" sitting forlornly and slowly rotting away. They should put it out of it's misery.
Here we are drinking $8 vodkas at 333.
Out on Oceanside Pier with the fishermen and women.
We picked Mike up at the airport on Saturday and had dinner at home that evening so we could watch the Mayweather/McGregor "fight". This was the appetizer.
Bocce Balls
Giant Jenga with Lynn and Lorri
Dinner! Sorry I didn't take more photos that night.
We went to Seaside State Beach on Sunday to wait for the sun to burn off the marine layer.
Don't know if it ever did.
We stopped at the new beer-tasting room in the Village, "Culture" and tasted beer and brought pizza from the new pizza place, Napizza!
I wore my Natty Boh tee from Baltimore
Barrel Republic! Carlsbad.
What's better that 99 bottles of beer on the wall? How about 50 different beer taps?
Sara works not far away, so she joined us for lunch
On down the coast in Leucadia, we stopped by Papagayo for a margarita.
We then strolled to Solterra for a little wining
Cheers!
Meanwhile, back at the ranch it was time to clean up under my outdoor shower!
It was off to the track on Wednesday!
It's always fun to spend a late summer afternoon at Del Mar kicking back and betting on the ponies. Deb and Lorri are at the paddock area.
We had a track-side table where we got lunch, wine and beer and watched the races.
Looking down at the Paddock.
Race track selfie
Do we look like big winners?
This horse ran faster than several of the ones I bet on.
I think its name was "Seahorsebiscuit"
Here we are at Happy Hour at 3rd Corner!
And here we are grabbing a bite at Roxy
And here we are at the Biergarden. We get around.
Lorri and Sara on the sidewalk
No visit to Encinitas is complete without breakfast at Mr. Peabody's
$2.50 build-your-own Bloody Mary's, $1.50 breakfast tacos, cheap beer, cold prosecco, you can't go wrong.
Mr. Peabody's
On Saturday, we went to see the play "Robin Hood" at the Old Globe in Balboa Park. It was the matinee.
We had lunch at Prado complete with dessert chocolate martinis.
Ask Deb to show her "boomerang" app.
The gentlemen enjoyed the Port.
A nice setting and good tune-up for the play.
Mike admiring the sculpture in the Prado courtyard
The sculpture in the courtyard.
No photos allowed in the play, sorry.
After the play we took a short side-trip to the Gaslamp because obviously we needed cocktails.
We stopped at The Field and the Knotty Barrel
Labor Day!
Deb and Mike's last full day in Encinitas.
We decided to make it a backyard bbq and game day.
We played washer toss. (Debbie and I beat Mike and Lorri every time!)
We played giant Jenga
Deborah carefully selects her block
And places it deftly atop the stack
Mike surveys his options...
Lorri getting ready to knock it over!
Nighttime washer toss
We played Petanque, the French version of bocce
Greg getting ready to toss
It was sooo close!
Pincho ribs! Yes!
More Jenga
Pincho ribs and Mexican spiced corn-on-the-cob!
OK, in France, if you get shut out 13-0, you must kiss the you-know-what. What are the chances of a shut-out?
Lorri cleaning up.
Lorri and Sara
...and me!
...and Deb and Mike!
Some serious washer tossing! Guess who got shut out!?
Yup, Mike and Lorri!
And we've come to the end of my photo log of Deb and Mike's visit. We had a great time and it went by way too quickly.
