Little Italy
We decided to take a short vacation and spend a couple nights in Little Italy in downtown San Diego, November 18 and 19
We stayed at the (not so) luxurious "La Pensione"
Luckily we were assigned a corner room with a view down Date Street to the Bay
There was a bed, a mirror, a couple windows and...
a bathroom with magazines; all a person needs!
And four pillows!
We started at Davanti
Our Hotel
Sampling house-made vermouth at Monelo
Monelo is a little like drinking in Spain; they serve each round with a small tapas-like appetizer.
The view from our window
We were joined by the nieces and cousin Katie with Ryan, Frank and Darius
We were at the Princess English Pub
Sara, Ash and me
Again
Katie and Ryan
Darius, Sara, Lorri and me
The next day, Saturday, we went for a stroll and saw this sculpture which is supposed to be a tribute to Tony Gwynn. I'm not so sure about it. I wonder what Tony would have said.
There was a cruise ship in town
The obligatory photo of the Star of India
Those things a BIG!
Break time. We had a drink and an order of tater tots with a side of bacon ketchup!
The Midway, also huge.
The Midway is part of the San Diego Maritime Museum
Meanwhile, back in our room I tuned in to the Michigan-Indiana game. It looked a little chilly!
So, as we thought about how frozen the Michigan and Indiana fans must be, we enjoyed a sunset and a glass of wine in our room. Well, the sun didn't set in our room, it set out there somewhere beyond Point Loma.
Then we went out and didn't take any more photos. I don't know why.
On Sunday morning we checked out and drove over to Liberty Station and the Liberty Public Market
Liberty Public Market has just been named one of the top 20 market places in the US by some very impressive rating agency whose name I can't remember.
It is a fun spot and we had a fun weekend getaway.
Next time I'll take more photos, but until then, ciao from Little Italy!
