On November 11th our landscape contractor showed up to begin work on the
transformation of our back yard.

These are the "before" photos

We let things get overgrown and out of hand in some areas

The grass has been ravaged by voracious killer rabbits

Our ground cover plants met the same fate

The ongoing drought made us decide to go with a small bocce court instead of
grass and more drought-tolerant plants in the rest of the yard

Good-bye grass

Good-bye old ugly plants

Hello worker dudes in the back yard

Out with the old! (Except for me!)

They made quick work of the demo

Dueling wheel barrows

We took out the magnolia next to the house

We took out a lot of stuff

We moved the concrete pavers. (By "we" I mean "they")

We took out dirt

We pounded stakes. We measured stuff.

We replaced the old bender board with pavers

We did use the old bender board for a form

We added road base and DG. We added irrigation and drainage.

We left a spot for our bench wall

We smoothed out the DG

We made a mess!

We made a mess looking the other direction

We started to build the bench wall

We had to get it just right

We added pavers and walk way pavers

We added totem poles!

Just kidding. We call it an "arbor".

The arbor

Here we are working hard to get things finished up. Again, by "we" I mean
"they".

The finished product!

It took a while, but we like the results

We need to add more lighting

And wait for the new plants to fill out

And practice our bocce ball or boule or petanque or whatever we use our new
court for

So as the sun sets on our latest project...
it's time for a party!
