Jack's and Lorri's Road Trip, Page 1

Road Trip Practice!
We had some work done on the Sportsmobile so we thought we'd take a little ride to road test it.

We ended up at the Old Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, meaning "Saint Louis, the King of France". According to the handout, the purpose of the 21 Missions in California was to claim the land for Spain and bring Christianity to the Native Americans. What that has to do with the 13th century king of France, I don't know.

Located in Oceanside, it is the largest of the missions and is still in use today as a Catholic church.

There was a noon Mass just getting under way when we visited.

Construction on the present building began in 1811

A skull and bones? Welcome to the cemetery!

Many of the sculptures and paintings date to the 1700's.

Our actual Road Trip starts on Thursday, April 23rd! Come back and check it out!
