The Summer of 2010
Grandson Jake joined us from Baltimore on July 7. He has grown about
a foot since last summer, his voice has changed and he is growing a nice
crop of hair which we understand will disappear when football season
starts.

Still no sun on the coast but we got out the bean bag game and tossed
it around a bit.

Still waiting for some sunshine in Encinitas, we drove east to
Escondido and the Evers' house.

It was sunny and nice there and we played bean bag again!

Ashley celebrating a "15"!

Later Jake taught us all how to play "Kemps" which was to become the
game of the summer. I'll let Jake explain it to you.

Here are some photos of Jake surfing. We borrowed a board from our
friendly realtor Ruth, and the rest is history.

Jake did real well - next stop: the North Shore of Kauai!

Did I mention it was still cloudy (and cold) at the beach? See GML
all covered up...

Here is Jake surfing on another day. Still no sun but things were
about to change.

July 13, Malarie and Kristen Arrive!

We picked them up at the airport and had a nice dinner at Tom Ham's
Lighthouse and then...

The next day, wouldn't you know it? The sun came out!!!!

The girls must have brought some of that east coast sunshine with
them!

Here is where we were hanging out looking west, east, north and
south. Those are the stairs at "D" St in the third photo.

Another rousing game of Kemps.

More Bean Bag toss.

More Kemps!

More fun in the sun!

Martini Night at Via Italia

Proof that the sun was out.

Back at the ranch...

After "martini night" with Greg, Kelly, et al...

Poor Jake had to leave on Friday, the 16th, so we dropped him at the
airport and took off on tour of the town.

Starting in Coronado with a walk along the world-famous beach and a
visit to The Hotel Del Coronado.

Yup, it's still standing and still impressive.

Next stop, The Gaslamp Quarter where we had Mexican food at Fred's
and did a little shopping.

We drove up around Mission Bay, Mission Beach and Pacific Beach to La
Jolla.

Always picturesque, Children's (and seal's) pool, some seals, the
Cove and of course, Mal, Kristen and Lorri.

Sunday, Kayaking in Oceanside Harbor

We really all wanted to go to In-n-out Burger for double-doubles but
figured we better get some fresh air and exercise first.

We drove up to the O-side Harbor and rented a couple kayaks and went
paddling around.

we saw lots of boats/yachts, a couple seal lions and seals, some
pellicans and a boat named "Lazy Jack". That's me.

Some scenes from In-n-out.

Here are the results of a photo session with Ashley and Sara,
including the yearly Ashley-Malarie-Sara photo which we've been
collecting for almost ten years now.

Wow!

Aren't we pretty?
