July 22, 2008, Tuesday, Mal & Jake, the grandkids
arrive at mid-day on the Southwest non-stop from Baltimore!

Here we are at the Airport and then the Red Sails Inn on Shelter
Island for lunch. Later on back in Encinitas, GML (Grandma Lorri) and
Jake played a few rousing games of "kings in the corner"

The next day was Moonlight Beach day. We also managed to get a new
skim board, go for a bike ride and bbq some pork chops, and later,
watched the movie "21", which we all liked.
US Open Surfing Championships, Huntington Beach, CA.

We headed north to Orange County (The OC, as the kids call it) for a
day of watching the pros compete in the US Open.

Not only were the heats going on in the waves all day long but there
were skate board, bmx and all sorts of other x-sports type things going
on as well as lots of booths full of freebies and stuff to buy.

We headed out to Ruby's at the end of the pier for lunch.
From there you could get a feel for the size of the waves and see the
surfers better.
After lunch we walked through town and checked out all the surf
shops, etc.

We left HB at around 3 but hit a huge traffic backup on I-5, just
north of Dana Point, so... We got off the freeway and ambled
around Dana Point and then went back north along Coast Highway a few
miles to Laguna Beach while we waited for the traffic to clear.

These photos as well as the one with the statue of "The Greeter" were
taken in Laguna Beach.
