Abe Lincoln appears in Vista, CA!

Four score and several days ago Lorri and I went to a Civil War
battle re-enactment and ran smack into the old emancipator
himself! For being nearly 200 years old, he was looking pretty good. We
chatted for a while and then went to see Jefferson Davis, the other
Civil War president.

This is Jeff Davis. He's looking pretty good too - quite the southern
gentleman.
The Battle

We arrived at the battlegrounds just before the carnage began. Here
the southern forces are lining up to fire their first volley.

The spectators were excited. The young lasses on the left were
sticking close together on the sidelines. Lorri is asking "now tell me
again who wore blue and who wore gray?"

The battle begins.

It was a see-saw affair with neither side gaining an advantage until
the South brought in reinforcements.

I must say, it was really loud. It was really loud.

Finally the Rebels overran the Yanks, leaving the poor boys in blue
strewn about the field.

Afterward, they all got up and shook hands and headed back to camp
for a few pints of ale or perhaps some lemonade.
Here are a few scenes from the encampment.

Later, after we had a couple hot dogs and a coke, we spotted these
Union soldiers heading back out to the field for the 2:30 battle.

We didn't stay to see it, but I'm guessing the North was victorious
in the end.
