Welcome to Encinitas, CA!

We picked Mal & Cait up at the airport on August 8 and after a brief tour of Seaport Village and a quick lunch, we headed up the coast to our home in Encinitas. There we hiked out to the beach, stopping on Coast Highway, the "D" Street stairs and Moonlight Beach for the above photos.

Surf Lessons!

The next day, after shaking off some jet lag, the girls hit the beach with Kahuna Bob for a couple hours of surf lessons.

They started of with a few minutes of basic training from one of Kahuna Bob's expert instructors then they grabbed their boards and hit the waves. Caitlin stood up on her first try and rode a wave almost to the beach! Malarie, an old pro, picked up right where she left off last year.

Here they are with instructor Chris and their big old boards. Grandpa Jack enjoyed his time in the shade of the umbrella.

Chris took the girls out a little farther than the rest of the class. They each caught a few good waves just as they were breaking.

La Jolla

On Friday we spent the morning in Mission Beach, had lunch at Cane's and then headed up the coast to La Jolla. The weather was beautiful and the water was calm and clear. Many kayakers and divers were exploring the coves and the beaches were pretty crowded.
